What Are the Types of Condoms?

Many couples choose to use condoms for birth control. Used properly, condoms prevent pregnancy not only, but a sexually transmitted disease. A condom costs little, does not require a prescription and is easy to use. Some condoms can increase the sexual experience. Condoms can be textured, fragrant, or treated with lubricants and spermicides, but all are designed to prevent semen from being implanted in women.

Lambskin
Lambskin condoms made from sheep's intestines. Some people prefer these condoms because they are made from natural ingredients. Thin Sheepskin condom, and felt different than condoms made of artificial materials. But Sheepskin condoms only protect against pregnancy. They do nothing to inhibit the spread of the disease. Sheepskin condoms have pores large enough for sexually transmitted diseases to pass through. Sheepskin condoms also tend to be more expensive than other types of condoms.

Latex
Occupy the biggest part of the LaTeX market condoms today. Latex condoms are cheap and effective way to prevent both pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. You can buy latex condoms in different sizes and colors. Condoms can be seasoned, textured with ribs or nubs or contain reservoir at its end. People with latex allergies should avoid latex condoms.

Polyurethane
Polyurethane condoms offer an alternative for people who are allergic to LaTeX. Like LaTeX, this relatively inexpensive condoms come in a variety of styles. Thinner than LaTeX, polyurethane condoms offer more stretch, which can make condoms more convenient.

Polyisoprene
Polyisoprene condom, developed around the turn of the Millennium. People who prefer polyisoprene condoms reported this condom is thin and flexible feel more natural than condoms made from other materials. They are also a good option for people with latex allergies. Polyisoprene condoms cost less than a sheepskin, but slightly more than LaTeX and polyurethane.

Female Condom
Female condoms are usually made of polyurethane. A long, thin tube, closed at one end, a line of women's vagina and provide an effective barrier for both pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease.Though some studies have reported higher pregnancy rates with condoms for women, University of California at Davis reported pregnancy rates with female condoms properly installed is 5 percent, compared to 3 percent with the use of the male condom. Female condom can be inserted up to eight hours prior to the deal, which some women viewed as profit. Other women, such as female condoms that put them in control to protect themselves, not have to rely on people that agree to wear a condom. Condoms for women tend to be more expensive, and insert them properly requires a little practice.
